Welcome to St Andrews Photos

Honesty, we're told, is the best policy, and so I may as well come clean with it: St Andrews Photos is nothing more than the fruit of my own self-indulgence. There. I've said it. You see, having spent four years studying in St Andrews there was never time (or so it seemed) to take the photos I wanted to take. There were more important things to be getting on with, study being somewhere near the top. To get carried away taking photos would have been nothing short of reckless. It's May 2006 and another graduate (me, incidentally), emerges from Younger Hall puzzled and clutching a degree certificate. The question on everyone's lips is “What now?” Nobody seemed to have much of an answer. Now if I've learned anything in four years, it's that things can always be put off until tomorrow. A hastily made decision about what to do with one's life risks disaster, not to mention a ruined appetite. And so to pass the time while I had ‘a good think’, I chose to spend the summer in St Andrews, get a job and take a few photos. Three months later and what began as some enjoyable snapping had turned into a full-blown obsession! Friends fretted that I had been possessed. Catching the sunlight at 5am and the streetlight at 2am had played havoc with my sleep pattern. The photos were gathering but all else was falling apart. As students began to return, I realised it was finally time to leave. A friend once said that saying goodbye is like pulling a plaster off slowly: painful and drawn-out. I tend to agree. But goodbyes are important, and painful as they may be, they can still be beautiful. Go to Gallery...
